The 6th Branch utilizes veteran leadership skills in the spirit of service to partner with communities to strengthen Baltimore neighborhoods.

vision

We envision a Baltimore where all residents thrive in healthy and environmentally sustainable and resilient neighborhoods.

Our Story

Founded in 2010 by military veterans in Baltimore, The Sixth Branch (T6B) was born from a desire to continue serving - at home.

Recognizing the deep inequities and the immense potential in disinvested neighborhoods in East Baltimore, our founders set out to apply the discipline, teamwork, and mission-driven leadership they had honed in military service to community revitalization.

That commitment led to the establishment of The 6th Branch as a 501(c)(3) neighborhood development nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through service, partnership, and shared responsibility.

From its founding, T6B has played an active and transformative role within Baltimore's ecosystem of organizations and institutions.

Our work centers on raising, organizing, and optimizing resources to improve health, well-being, connection, and opportunity - always in close collaboration with residents and neighborhood leaders.

What sets us apart is not only what we do, but how we do it.

Through long-standing partnerships, community-guided priorities, and a deep respect for local knowledge, these principles ensure that the work done every day translates into lasting change.

Over the past 15 years, The 6th Branch has grown from a small veterans service club into a trusted steward of 22.5 acres of community-controlled green space across Baltimore. since our founding, over 15,000 volunteers have contributed more than 50,000 hours of service, representing $1.7 million in community value.

Through building and operating community farms, planting and maintaining trees, restoring vacant land, and supporting schools and neighborhood groups, we have expanded access to healthy food, urban tree canopy, and safe, welcoming green spaces.

Together with our partners, we continue advancing our mission of cultivating equitable Baltimore neighborhoods through environmental stewardship and community partnership.
